Releasing last September of last year, iOS 6.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod, the update has introduced whole lot of new features, apart from the usual bug fixes. Some of these are a bigger button for reporting problems in Apple Maps, new lock screen music controls, to name just a few.

This update is a welcome change by Apple owners who may find a solution for the network connectivity issue with their Exchange calendar. Taking a look at the chronology of the updates, iOS 6.1 was released on Jan 28, iOS 6.1.1 in Feb, iOS 6.1.1 beta on Feb 6 (the update has not been released yet).

Since the launch of iOS 6.1 Apple has issued two major updates one concerning  battery drainage for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and the other of 3G connectivity issue for iPhone 4S. These updates are available on the iTunes Store or Over-The-Air.

Nevertheless, iOS 6.1.2 is easy to install though around 40 MB. The new software is similar to iOS 6.1.2 and it takes about 8 – 10 minutes or even lesser to install. Previous features of iOS 6.1 seem to be working great with the new iOS 6.1.2; with an addition of movie tickets purchase via Siri.

For all iPad owners who rely on Wi-Fi only connectivity, there is something to worry about. Public Wi-Fi connection may be at times unstable. For help or advise on Wi-Fi, you may want to refer to this – Wi-Fi.

The new update has delivered its promise and fixed its quickly depleting battery-life. Though, some iPad owners still seem to be complaining of the same. To check on recurring battery drainage issue you may want to refer to this link – A Way to Fix iOS 6.1 Battery Drain.

One of the persistent issue with this update is of its lock screen, which can be easily bypassed using its Emergency Call button. The good news is the Apple has resolved the issue with its iOS 6.1.3 update – Apple releases iOS 6.1.3, fixes lock screen security issue

As of now, there are no major issues with iOS 6.1.2, you will not encounter any major issue with any of its apps or features. In addition, the Evasi0n Jailbreak, supports this new update. The Jailbreak is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 6.0 through 6.1.2.

In Conclusion

As per a study conducted by Chitika Ad Networks, iOS 6.1.2 has become the most sought-after version of Apple, within one week of its launch. Five days following iOS 6.1.2’s debut, 34.9% of iOS web traffic in North American network is generated by 6.1.2 users. As this latest update fixed a battery life issue which has been a major phone feature/concern; it’s understandable that the rate of adoption for iOS 6.1.2 will reach this level so quickly.

Yet, another report by Distimo, states that iPad adoption will increase 8x if iPad developers drop their iPad pricing between $1 and $3. Distimo found out that iPad app downloads jumped up by a considerable 871%. With an aggressive rate of iPad adoption,, Apple has to churn out updates at an even faster rate.
